The SureFire E2L-A Outdoorsman is the latest member of the SureFire E2L series of flashlights. Designed to provide extended runtime, the dual-output E2L-A is powered by two 123A lithium batteries and is rated to provide 5 lumens for 67 hours in low mode and 125 lumens for 7.25 hours in high mode. As with previous versions of the E2L, the new Outdoorsman utilizes a Total Internal Reflection (TIR) lens to focus output and is controlled by a pushbutton tailcap.

The E2L-A always comes on in low mode first, with high mode selected by an additional press or click of the tailcap button.

The E2L-A features aerospace aluminum construction and uses the same body and tailcap design as previous versions. The most notable differences with the new version are the addition of SureFire's 2-way pocket clip and the completely redesigned KE2 head.

The E2L-A can be disassembled into its major component parts which are completely interchangeable with other SureFire E-series lights.

The 2-way clip allows the light to be carried in either bezel up or bezel down positions.

SureFire E2L-A Performance

The E2L-A produces a broad center hotspot which can easily reach beyond 60 meters. This hotspot is surrounded by an extremely wide spill beam which allows peripheral vision out to around 20 meters.

The beam has a slightly warm and greenish tint which is most noticeable when illuminating a white surface or comparing the light to a cool white LED. In actual usage the greenish tint is not nearly as noticeable, especially when used outdoors.

Runtime

The E2L-A provides extremely stable output for the first 6 hours of continuous operation, followed by a period of declining output.

The E2L-A can also be used with SureFire's new F04-A, F05-A, and F06-A diffuser and filters.

Conclusions

The E2L-A Outdoorsman is a nice upgrade over prior versions for users who want a little more output or a broader beam. Designed with efficiency in mind, the E2L-A will not be as impressive, from the standpoint of sheer output, as other higher powered lights but it provides a very respectable level of output for a long period of time.

• Excellent runtime with 6 hours at full output
• Parts compatibility with other E-series lights
• Addition of 2-way pocket clip

Concerns

• As this is an "outdoors" type of light, it seems odd there is no lanyard attachment point
