At my favorite place for beamshots, our place on the Potomac in Southern Maryland. I've been wanting to capture the little beast, the Nitecore Tiny Monster (TM11) and thought I'd bring a few friends along for the ride. I'm not good with distance, and I'm too lazy to measure, but I think that the end of the dock is around 100 feet.

All lights are on their highest setting, except with the TM11 I used low/med/high and Turbo. Camera is a Canon 40D with a Sigma 18 – 50 2.8-4.5 lens, zoomed in at 35mm. Camera is on manual, white balanced to 5000k color temp, shutter at 2 seconds and aperture at f/3.2 – ISO 100

(Note - the point of this sequence of shots is to try and establish relative levels of brightness - what you see in the photos is actually notably 'darker' than what my eyes saw. Immediately following this sequence is another sequence that is closer to what the eyes really see.)

UPDATE - I find that a 'video' of the shots in sequence makes it far easier for me to compare. Here is a video of the first sequence - there is a video of the second sequence just before the first photo

Now lets repeat, with everything the same except now the camera is at a bit of a wider angle (to capture more of the spill,) and while the shutter and aperture remain the same, I bumped the ISO to 1000. I think this is much closer to what I actually see.

Folks, let's think about this...many of these lights are under $100. A few in the $100-150 range. The McGizmo's are the higher priced lights, but they are unquestioned as bulletproof lighting tools in beautiful titanium - the "Rolex" of flashlights. Then this crazy TM11 - less than $300 and I thought it would set the trees on fire! :ohgeez:
